Pottery Lessons at Matsuba Kiln

At Matsuba Kiln, pottery lessons are designed as a calm and personal introduction to the art of working with clay. Whether you are touching clay for the first time or already have some experience, ceramic artist Genjiro Matsuba will guide you step by step through the basic gestures of Japanese pottery.

The lesson begins with a short introduction to clay, tools and traditional forms. Participants then create their own piece, such as a small bowl, cup or plate, while learning how to feel the balance between hand, wheel and material. Rather than focusing on perfect results, the class values patience, attention and the natural character of each handmade object.

After the session, the pieces are dried, glazed and fired at Matsuba Kiln. Finished works can be picked up at the studio or shipped within Japan. Each lesson is held in a small group, allowing every participant to receive personal advice in a peaceful workshop atmosphere.
