No experience is required. The lesson is open to beginners as well as people who have already tried pottery. Genjiro Matsuba will guide each participant step by step.
Most participants create a small bowl, cup or plate. The final shape may vary depending on the clay, the wheel and your own hands. Each piece is unique.
A standard lesson takes about 2 hours. This includes a short introduction, hands-on pottery time and cleaning up after the session.
Lessons are held in small groups, usually between 2 and 6 participants, so that each person can receive personal guidance.
Please wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting a little dirty. Aprons are available at the studio.
No. Your piece needs to dry, then it will be glazed and fired in the kiln. This process usually takes several weeks.
You can pick up your finished piece at Matsuba Kiln, or request domestic shipping within Japan. Shipping fees may apply.
Yes. Private lessons can be arranged depending on Genjiro Matsuba’s schedule. They are recommended for people who want more personal guidance or a quieter experience.
Children may join with an accompanying adult. Please contact the studio in advance so that the lesson can be prepared safely.
Yes. Visitors from overseas are welcome. Basic English guidance is available, but the lesson is mostly taught through demonstration and hands-on practice.
